Delta Heat Accomplishments
Delta Heat 95 wins Provincials
Heat 95 wins Gold at the 2007 Squirt Provincials. This is a major accomplishment for this team of outstanding athletes. After qualifying for first place by winning all the round robin games, this caused a much needed adrenaline rush to push the girls to the extreme and go all the way to gold. Outstanding coaching by Sandi, Kristy, Amanda and Katie showed, as the girls could not be defeated by the rain or harsh weather.
Congratulations to the National Bronze Medallist Delta Heat 89 Boily

Heat send four teams to 2006 Nationals and Westerns
The Delta Heat Fastpitch Association experienced outstanding success by its teams at the BC Provincial Championships. Five out of the eight Delta Heat teams either won Provincials or qualified to continue playing onto Westerns or Nationals. Representing Heat at Peewee "A" Westerns are the Heat '92 coached by Bob Houtmann who battled their way to a 4th place finish. Calahoo, Alberta can expect a fired up Heat team, looking to defend the championship won by their big sister Heat '91's in 2005. Representing Heat at the Bantam "A" Nationals in St. Catherines, Ontario are the Delta Heat '90 coached by Gord Collings. The Heat '90 are a former national champion and Softball BC team of the year having won the championship in 2004. Representing Heat at the Midget "A" Nationals in Guelph, Ontario are the Delta Heat '89 coached by Roger Boily. One of the most decorated teams in Delta Heat history this fiery group of players goes on to Nationals with only one ambition.....to bring back the Gold! Finally, representing Heat at the Midget "A" Nationals in Guelph, Ontario are the Delta Heat '88 coached by Softball BC Hall of Famer, Deb Smallwood. Despite dealing with the tragic death of teammate and friend, Hanna Anderson just two weeks before Provincials, the Heat '88 rallied and fought back the best that the competition could throw at them to finish 2nd and move on. This team is building momentum and looking for a good showing at Nationals. Best of luck to all of the Heat teams moving on.

Heat '91 win Westerns in Prince Albert! (2005)
The Delta Heat ’91 Peewee “A” Girls’ Fastpitch team capped off a successful season this past weekend by winning the 2005 Western Canadian Championship in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. The Heat ’91 qualified for this tournament as the top seed from BC after a fine performance at the BC Provincial tournament held in Tsawwassen in mid July. As the only Delta Heat team to represent BC this year, there was a lot of pressure on the Heat ’91. Besides their local rivals the Vancouver Wildcats 91 (seeded BC #2), they would face competition from 7 other teams including Provincial champions from Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. A six game round robin tournament would be followed by a playoff which would include only the top four teams. Friday was the first day of competition and the Heat ’91 started off the round robin fast against the Alberta champion Calgary Illusion. Hard hitting and a dominant pitching performance by Ashley helped her win player of the game honours and the Heat ’91 to a 11-1 victory after just 6 innings. The host team, the Prince Albert Aallcann Aces, was the next to face the Heat. The Aces scored early to take a lead which the Heat were unable to overcome, finally yielding the host team 3-1. The final game of the day came against the Saskatchewan champion Saskatoon Raiders. Timely hitting, solid defence by player of the game Jordan helped the Heat ’91 earn a 3-0 win. Saturday was crunch day for the Heat as they knew with the right performance they could guarantee a spot in four team playoffs. They wasted no time in the morning, coming up against Alberta #2, the Calgary Diamond Devil Renegades. Outstanding hitting, including a home run by Tineke helped the Heat ’91 to a 16-0 victory in just two and a half innings. In the afternoon game, the Manitoba champion Park West Chill were the opponents. The Heat ’91 continued their solid defence led by pitcher and player of the game, Katie. With a relentless attack, the Heat scored ten runs in the fifth inning to mercy the Chill 17-0. The Heat ’91 awoke Sunday knowing that they were in the playoffs but not where they would place. After the early morning games, it was clear that a victory in their last round robin game would give them second place in the playoffs. This was important because the two top teams would get “two lives” in the playoffs versus the other two teams. This was bad news for their opponents, Manitoba #2, the Winnipeg Angels. Led by the hitting and solid defence of catcher and player of the game Kim, the Heat dispatched the Angels 10-0 in just five innings. The Heat ’91 finished the round robin at 5-1 with fifty eight runs for and just four runs against. Marie and Lindsay also earned player of the game honours in the round robin. The playoffs opened with a semi-final against BC rivals the Vancouver Wildcats 91. The winner of this game would be sent directly to the finals with two chances to win Gold, so the stakes were high. After reaching base on an error in the 3rd inning, left fielder Erin was hit home on a triple by Lindsay making the game 1-0. After reaching third base on a single by Jordan and a passed ball, Marie stole home on another passed ball to put the Heat up by two runs. That was all the offence that round robin top pitcher Ashley needed. Backed by solid defence including a key put-out by right fielder Brittany they moved onto the gold medal game with a 2-0 win. After dispatching of the host team, the Vancouver Wildcats 91 advanced for a rematch with the Heat ’91. After going behind 1-0 in the first inning, the Heat tied it in the second inning when Brittany singled and then scored on a Renee's single. The Heat took the lead after Kayla and Marie singled and scored on Kim's single up the middle. After a Wildcat run in the fourth, Tineke came up in the sixth and creamed a long double to bring in the fourth Heat run. The Wildcats threatened in the top of the seventh getting bases loaded with none out. Shortstop Jordan fielded a ground ball and fired to home to get the first out. A long hit through right center field scored one run but a great recovery by Renee to the cut-off Marie and onto catcher Lindsay got the tying run out at home. Pitcher Katie took care of the rest as she struck out the final batter to end the game and give the Heat the gold. The Heat ’91 finished the tournament with a 7-1 record. They scored a total of sixty four runs and allowed only seven runs against. Ashley capped off her tournament by being awarded the tournament MVP. Congratulations to the team, coaches Colleen, Alex and George and manager Lloyd. The coaching staff would like to thank the athletes, parents and sponsors of the Delta Heat ’91 for their support in 2005.

Delta Heat 96 wins 2011 Provincials
The Delta Heat 96 wins Gold at the BC provincial playdowns. Delta Heats first year Bantam A team earned the right to represent BC at the nationals by finishing the provincials with a record of 8-1. They completed the round robin unbeaten to end up in first place. The playoffs started by winning their first two games. Their only loss was to the White Rock Renegades 95 thus making the Heat 96 and Abbottsford Outlaws 95 play down for right to move onto the gold medal game. The Heat gained an early lead on the Outlaws and never looked back for the win. In the Gold medal game strong pitching and defence kept the Heat in the game. Able to get runners on base throughout the game but unable to bring them in set the tone for the bottom of the seventh when with runners at second and third, a timely hit scored the winning run upsetting the Renegade 95s 2-1 sending the Heat 96 to the Canadian Nationals representing BC as the top placed team. All the players contributed to this great accomplishment, Lexie Brenneis, Mackenzie Welsh, Montana Turnovitski, Jennifer Linde, Cyleste Mackey, Holly Speers, Paige Harbord, Carolyn Thoveson, Francais Olexa, Siara Couper, Kaitlin Fraser and Kennedy Bailey. |
